Removalists typically operate on an hourly rate basis rather than a fixed fee.
When things aren't organised, and packed correctly it makes it a more difficult and lengthy process for the moving company which could result in the moving fee being hundreds of dollars more.
In order to save an much money as possible on your move, we recommend the following:
🔹Emptying Cupboards & Draws
Draws and cupboards with items in them is dangerous and can cause damage to your items and/or furniture whilst in transit. This can also add time if the removalist needs to wrap or pack those items into boxes.
🔹Packing, Marking & Taping Boxes
In order to save as much time as possible on your moving day, we recommend using boxes designed for moving and correctly packing, marking and taping the boxes.
• Tea Chest Boxes - Cushions, linen, clothes, pots, pans.
• Book Boxes - Books, Glassware, Fragile Items
• Port-A-Robe Boxes - Hanging clothes
Make sure to label to top of every box with the rooms where the boxes are to go or use a different coloured tape. That way you don't have to be at the door to direct the movers.
If the boxes are too heavy for you to lift then the movers may need to use a trolley or 2 people to carry, resulting in the moving taking longer.
Make sure not to water your pot plants the day before your move, pot plants can be very heavy when still full of water and could damage items of furniture whilst in transit.
🔹Disassembling Furniture
Moving companies disassemble and reassemble furniture everyday from beds to cupboards to lounges however we recommend trying to disassemble any furniture as this can save a lot of time on moving day.
