Things movers won't transport, don't like to transport & will only transport if they are prepared for transport.

Things Movers Won't Transport

Moving companies should have adequate insurance to cover your goods whilst in transit.

Moving companies typically opt for Carriers Insurance also known as Goods In Transit Insurance.

The insurance companies have certain requirements, conditions and procedures that moving companies must follow, one of these is what moving companies are not allowed to transport.

This means that if something was to happen to your goods whilst in transit and it is found that the moving company was transporting an excluded item, then the insurance company will reject the claim being made.

As a general rule, if the item is flammable, toxic, hazardous or explosive then it can't be transported by a removalist and would need to be transported by a hazardous goods logistics company such as Ignite Logistics.

The items that insurers don't want movers carrying are as followed:

Paint
• Motor Oil
• Pool Chemicals
• Gas & Air Tanks
• Car Battery's
• Propane Tanks
• Aerosol Cans
• Kerosene
• Perishable Food
• Acids
• Pesticides
• Pets

If you need to move long distance then it's best to dispose of them before moving.

If you are moving locally, then make sure to not transport these items in your car in closed boxes. If you must transport them yourself, keep the box lids open and in a secure location in your car and drive safely.

🔹Things Movers Don't Like To Transport

Movers typically don't like transporting the following items as if things are to get lost it can cause a lot of stress and beaches for both the mover and the client. These items we would recommend transporting yourself.

Laptops
• Tablets
• Phones
• Computers
• Medical Records
• Airline Tickets
• High Value Collectables
• Photos
• Irreplaceable Items
• Personal & Financial Documents
• Keys
• Cash
• Jewellery

If you need these items to be moved by a mover than its best to clearly mark the box and advise the movers on the day so they can make sure the box is handled with extra care.

🔹Things Movers Will Only Move If They Have Been Prepared

Movers don't like to move certain items without them being prepared for transport first. This is because movers don't want anything to happen to your other items whilst in transit.

Lawn Mower, Chainsaw, Whipper Snipper

Make sure to drain all oils and petrol before moving day

Pot Plants

Make sure to drain water out of lot plants and not water them at least 1 day before your move.

Barbecue

Propane tanks need to be disconnected prior to moving, it's also a good idea to clean your BBQ and empty any trays that may have any debris on it.

• Fridges

Fridges need to be emptied before moving, it's a good idea to also clean the coils located on the back of the fridge as well.

• Dust & Clean Furniture

Your movers won't want to breathe in the accumulation of dust at the bottom and back of your items that haven't been cleaned I'm a while. By doing a quick wipe over and vacuum of your items this will keep the movers happy and it means you aren't carrying the debris into your new home.

How to save money on your next move

Removalists typically operate on an hourly rate basis rather than a fixed fee.  When things aren't organised, and packed correctly it makes it a more difficult and lengthy process for the moving company which could result in the moving fee being hundreds of dollars more. In order to save an much money as possible on your move, we recommend the following: 🔹Emptying Cupboards & Draws Draws and cupboards with items in them is dangerous and can cause damage to your items and/or furniture whilst in transit. This can also add time if the removalist needs to wrap or pack those items into boxes.  🔹Packing, Marking & Taping Boxes  In order to save as much time as possible on your moving day, we recommend using boxes designed for moving and correctly packing, marking and taping the boxes.  • Tea Chest Boxes - Cushions, linen, clothes, pots, pans.  • Book Boxes - Books, Glassware, Fragile Items  • Port-A-Robe Boxes - Hanging clothes  Make sure to label to top of every box with the r

The only plastic containers you should use when moving

We all have them, the clear plastic tubs that you can pick up from most stores.  They may be good to store your items at home, but when it comes to moving it can be a different story.  When packing your items into a truck, a removalist needs to be able to stack items. Clear plastic tubs aren't always made of strong plastic and so they tend to break quite easily when stacked in a truck. If a removalist can't stack the containers then this may take up unnecessary space and may mean the removalist having to do 2 trips.  Whats recommended is getting more heavy duty plastic tubs that can hold a bit more weight in them and are more structural.  If you do have the clear plastic tubs then make sure they are as light as possible as they can then be stacked at the top of the truck and will reduce the likelihood of being broken in transit.

Why Mattress covers aren't the best when moving

Mattress cover packs that you can pick up from your local storage facility or Bunnings are great if you are storing your items however when moving mattresses, having these covers can make it very hard to move. Mattress covers tend to be very lose, so they can fit a variety of sizes of mattress but when moving it makes it hard to grip onto the mattress and if access is restrictive when moving this can make it hard to manoeuvre your mattress. A reputable removalist will always shrink wrap your mattress which provides greater protection when moving your mattress and makes it a lot easier to manoeuvre. Shrink wrap is available from sotrage facilities and your local Bunnings as well.
